During the Christmas season of 2007 a family very dear to us emailed us the following:  “Are you looking for a theme for the next album, or open to ideas? We have had something on our hearts for the past year, on the theme of ‘Shepherds’....”

AS we thought and prayed about this, the phrase “Shepherds Abiding” came.  Months later, our family drove to NCR Studio to record a Christmas project.  But we still did not have a song to accompany the inciting phrase “Shepherds Abiding”.  One night, while Curtis worked late in the studio, Bonnie tucked the kids into their motor home beds, and took out her guitar to sing.  A new melody started to come.  The kids excitedly peeked their heads out from the back room and asked, “Mommy are you writing a song?!”  Within minutes the kids were dancing and singing through the motor home in their pajamas as Heidi played her violin and Bonnie began to sing, ”Sun goes down, shepherds abiding, carefully keep every lamb in sight …” (it felt like an impromptu “Sound of Music” moment). The song “Shepherds Abiding” came together in less than an hour that night. Such a special gift!

Recording the song was equally as God-inspired.  Following the laying of the initial tracks (guitar and piano), Curtis and Kelvin continued to play an improvised flourish based on the theme of the song, which extended the song an additional three minutes.  Overwhelmed, we felt as though we were given a glimpse back to the very night – that Holy Night when Jesus, the Savior of the world was born.  The sound of angels can be heard reverberating their praises, “Gloria!”

We pray these songs make you feel as though it’s truly Christmas - that they bring you into the presence of Almighty God drawing you close to His heart!  This is the reason He came.
